Tigers Mothers or the Making of Velveteen Mothers
The velveteen rabbit
"There are Tiger Mothers and there are Dragon Mothers,
but if the years can be used to make a woman only into this: a Velveteen Mother."
"A Velveteen Mother — made Real by the years — the way grace can happen to you. And not all at once — but you become. And grace becomes you."
From:
The velveteen rabbit
"What is REAL?"
"Real isn't how you are made,"
"It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with,
but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."

he LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."(Genesis 2:7)

The Optimism Bias
The Optimism Bias-we may be born with them.
"Our vision of our future is often rosier than reality"
Interesting statistics:
*10% of Americans who expect to live to 100
In reality: 0.02% live that long
*0% median assessment by surveyed U.S. marriage-license applicants of Likelihood that will divorces
*93% of people surveyed who believed they were in the top 50th percentile for driving ability
"optimists were more likely than nonoptimistic patient to take vitamins, eat low-fat diets and exercise."
"pessimistic patient under the age of 60 were more likely to die within eight months than nonpessimistic patients of the same initial health, status and age.'
"People felt their memories were as accurate as videotape, while often they were filled with errors."
"As a result, memory also ends up being a reconstuctive process, and occasionally, details are deleted and others inserted."
"we did not anticipate losing our job, being ill or getting a divorce, but when these incidents occur, we search for the upside. These experiences mature us , we think. They may lead to more fulfilling jobs and stable relationships in the future. Interpreting a mis fortune in this way allows us to conclude that our sunny expectations were correct after aa- thinhs working out for the best."
"People perceived adverse events more positively if they had experienced them in the past."
"Making a decision may be a tiring, difficult ordeal, butonce you make up your mind , something miraculous happens."
"This affirmation of our decisions helps us derive heightened pleasure from choices that might be neutral. Without this our lives might well be filled with second-guessing."
"We would find ourselves stuck, overcome by indecision and unable to move forward."
"Positive expectations enhance the odds of survival."
Awareness rarely shatters the illusion."

Elvis, you gives me an wonderful afternoon.
This song is for you.

ANNALS OF PSYCHOLOGY SOCIAL ANIMAL
ANNALS OF PSYCHOLOGY-SOCIAL ANIMAL

What does happiness come from? How do we feel happy?
Some excerpts from the article of social animals
“I believe we inherit a great river of knowledge, a flow of patterns coming from many sources.
“The information that comes from deep in evolutionary past we call genetics”
“The information passed along. From hundreds of years ago we call culture.”
“The information passed along from decades ago we call family.”
“The information offered months ago we call education.”
“Our thoughts are profoundly molded by this long historic flow, none of us exits, self-made, in isolation from it”
“Though History has made us self-conscious in order to enhance our survival prospects,………..”
“Flourishing consists of putting yourself in situation in which you lose self-consciousness and become fused with other people, experience, or tasks.”
“It happens sometimes while you are lost in a hard challenge, or when an artist listening to music, or lost in story, or to some people when they feel enveloped by God’s love.. And it happens most when we connect with other people.’

“Happiness isn’t really produced by conscious accomplishment.” (we can see it physically.)
“Happiness is a measure of how thickly the unconscious parts of our mind are intertwined with other people and with activities.”
“Happiness is determined by how much information and affection flows through us covertly every day and year.” (We can not see it physically and apparently.)l
“during his lifetime, the competition to succeed-to get into the right schools and land the right jobs-had grown stiffer.”
“Yet somehow the things that didn’t lead to happiness and flourishing had been emphasized at the expense of the things that did. The gifts he was most grateful for had been passed along to him by teachers and parents inadvertently, whereas his official education was mostly forgotten or useless.”
(My thought about the last statement:
If he did not get his official education, how could he meet and know different teachers? Official education has its purposes and goodness. However ,it seems like we pay too much attention to grades that we forget about the parts of the learning process.)
